Principles we work by.

Short positions on the things that decide whether commercial finance work actually changes anything.

  • Forecasting

    A forecast nobody trusts isn't a forecast.

Trust comes from drivers, not detail. If nobody in the leadership team can explain why a number moves, the forecast will be ignored the first time it disagrees with instinct.

  • Reporting

More dashboards won't fix bad information.

A second reporting layer over inconsistent data produces two versions of the truth instead of one. Fix the measure before you build the view.

  • Automation

Automating a bad process just makes the wrong thing happen faster.

Automation is worth doing after the process is worth keeping. The first question is whether the step should exist at all.

  • Technology

Technology should remove work — not create another system to maintain.

Every new tool has an ongoing cost in attention. If a change doesn't reduce the total amount of manual finance work, it hasn't landed.

  • Cash

Profit is an opinion. Cash is a fact.

Both matter, but only one of them pays the payroll run. Growing businesses need to see them side by side, weekly.
